Introducing the Innovative Huawei Pura X: A Unique Clamshell Foldable Smartphone

Huawei has just unveiled the remarkable Pura X, a smartphone that redefines the concept of foldable devices by merging the classic clamshell design with a book-style fold. This revolutionary phone promises to deliver not only stunning aesthetics but also enhanced functionality, catering to the needs of modern users.

The Huawei Pura X comes equipped with a 6.3" LTPO OLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, cleverly arranged in a portrait orientation. The cover is artistically designed to house three cameras alongside a 3.5" square display.

Once the device is opened, it transforms into a wide clamshell format, measuring 143.2 mm in height and a striking 91.7 mm in width. In its folded state, its dimensions shrink to a more manageable 91.7 mm by 74.3 mm, making it both unique and practical.

The Pura X features two side panels with LTPO OLED technology, boasting a stunning 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. The cover screen allows for a multitude of customizable animated wallpapers and provides accessibility to key applications such as camera functions, messaging, health apps, calls, and music playback without having to open the device.

Designed with convenience in mind, users can take calls in its folded position, as the earpiece is strategically placed next to the LED flash, allowing the cover screen to face the user's face.

The camera system is impressive as well, featuring three cameras arranged linearly: a 50 MP wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture, a 40 MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and an 8 MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. The phone is also equipped with a 10 MP front camera positioned in the main screen's punch hole, optimized for video calls.

The innovative hinge design employs a teardrop mechanism, utilizing space-grade materials with strength rating of 1900 MPa. While the Pura X is initially available in China, it is equipped to support satellite connectivity, albeit only with Chinese satellites and select memory models.

Powering the device is a 4,720 mAh battery split into dual cells, which supports fast charging at 66W wired and 40W wireless. Notably, Huawei has incorporated advanced heat-dissipating elements to maintain optimal performance.

Although the chip specifications remain undisclosed, the user experience is powered by AOSP HarmonyOS 5.0, rather than HarmonyOS Next. The Pura X is available in a standard version and a Collector's Edition, which features exclusive panel designs and a hefty 16 GB RAM option.

Huawei Pura X Collector’s Edition

The color options for the Pura X include Black, White, and Silver, alongside vibrant designs for the Collector's Edition in Pattern Green and Pattern Red. Pricing starts from CNY 7,499 ($1,035/€955) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, extending up to CNY 9,999 ($1,380/€1,270) for the top-tier variant featuring 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.

The Huawei Pura X will hit the shelves in China starting tomorrow, March 21, 2023, with no current information on its international release.
