Apple is set to enhance the AirPods experience with a groundbreaking live translation feature as part of the upcoming iOS 19 update. This innovative functionality will allow users to engage in real-time conversations across different languages, making language barriers a thing of the past.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg News, AirPods will soon be able to facilitate live translations of in-person discussions. This will involve a seamless collaboration with iPhones that are updated to iOS 19. Users wearing AirPods will hear translations of any unfamiliar language directly through their earbuds, and they will be able to respond in their native language, which will then be translated and broadcast via the iPhone’s speakers for the other conversation partner.
This feature will position AirPods competitively against Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro, both of which already offer interpreter modes.
The report does not specify which AirPods models will support this new update. Apple's Translate app, which debuted in 2020, currently accommodates 19 languages and will likely integrate with this new live translation feature.
In addition, the report reveals that Apple is developing its third-generation AirPods Pro and is exploring a new model equipped with built-in cameras and Apple Intelligence, designed to analyze the user's surroundings using visual technology.
