In a recent update from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, it has been revealed that Apple is postponing the launch of its new smart home hub, which was initially anticipated for a March release. This delay is tied to the postponement of significant updates to Siri's AI capabilities, which are crucial for the functionality of the device.
Speculative render for Apple's smart home hub device
The smart home hub, codenamed J490, is designed to operate on a customized version of iPadOS, allowing users to manage various smart home devices while also enabling video conferencing and serving as a home security monitor. However, without the enhanced AI features in Siri—such as better conversation mode, personal context awareness, and an upgraded App Intents framework—the product's launch is now indefinitely delayed.
Apple has initiated an internal beta testing program, allowing select employees to try out the hub in their homes. Once available, this device is expected to compete directly with established products like Amazon Echo and Google Nest Hub.
