In an exciting development for Android users, Google has revealed plans to introduce lock screen widgets across a wider range of Android tablets and smartphones. Currently, this feature is exclusive to the Pixel Tablet, but that is set to change soon.

For those who may not recall, lock screen widgets were a highly sought-after feature in the earlier versions of Android but were removed in subsequent updates. Google is now working to revive this functionality, coinciding with the launch of the official Android 16.

The rollout of the new operating system is anticipated to begin in June, with Google assuring that developers will have the ability to enable lock screen widgets immediately after the release.

Although the lock screen widget feature is currently disabled on devices running the Android 16 beta, Android Authority managed to test the functionality and discovered some intriguing aspects. On the Pixel Tablet, users can access the widgets by swiping right from the lock screen, while smartphone users must activate the Android screensaver mode to view them, a feature that only activates when the device is charging or docked.

Moreover, Google will provide developers the flexibility to determine how the widget interface is activated, which suggests that we may see a variety of implementations from different smartphone manufacturers.
