In a recent announcement, Apple has officially confirmed the delay of its highly awaited Siri AI features, which were initially expected to debut alongside iOS 18.4 in April. Subsequent reports indicated that these features have now been postponed even further.
Today, Apple has addressed the situation, admitting that the development of the revamped Siri is taking longer than anticipated. This has raised questions regarding the company's initial projections.
Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy provided the following statement to Daring Fireball's John Gruber:
"Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly. Over the past six months, we have made Siri more conversational, introduced new features such as type to Siri and product knowledge, and integrated ChatGPT. We're also focusing on creating a more personalized Siri that understands your context and can perform actions across your apps. However, we now recognize that it's going to take longer than initially expected to deliver these features, and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year."
Notably, the revised timeline indicates a significant delay, with the new features not expected for nearly a year. For those looking forward to a more personalized Siri experience, this means extended patience is required.
In the meantime, the forthcoming iOS 18.4 update next month will introduce some enhancements to Siri's existing capabilities, including greater availability in the EU and support for more languages.
