Both service providers have noted that connection and response times can fluctuate depending on location and environmental conditions requiring a clear line of sight to the satellites.
The underlying technology harnesses low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to facilitate direct communication with handling mobile devices. In instances where cellular networks are inadequate, the phone automatically attempts to connect to a satellite, allowing users to send texts, including emergency requests.
