Apple enthusiasts have eagerly awaited news regarding the foldable iPhone, often described as the holy grail of smartphone innovation. The latest insights from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggest that Apple is set to unveil its first foldable iPhone by late 2026. This anticipated announcement comes with exciting specifications, though it's important to approach the details with caution, as they remain speculative at this stage.
The upcoming foldable device is rumored to adopt a book-style design, featuring a 5.5-inch exterior display alongside a spacious 7.8-inch OLED main screen. Kuo also highlights that the innovative hinge mechanism is designed to create a "crease-free" user experience. Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) emerges as the primary supplier for the hinge and midframe components, which are expected to be crafted from stainless steel and titanium utilizing sophisticated 3D printing techniques, akin to Oppo's approach with its Find N5 model.

Interestingly, the foldable iPhone will forego Face ID, opting instead for a Touch ID fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, a move speculated to help preserve a sleeker design. In its unfolded state, the device is anticipated to measure between 4.5 to 4.8mm, with a thickness of 9 to 9.5mm when folded. Similar to the high-end Pro model iPhones, its casing will be made of titanium. A dual-lens camera system is expected on the back, along with front-facing cameras on both the main and cover displays.

Kuo further predicts that the foldable iPhone will see an initial production run in the third quarter of 2025, with mass production starting in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the official launch typically later that year. As with any groundbreaking tech, potential buyers should prepare for a premium price tag, as Kuo estimates the cost will range from $2,000 to $2,500. He anticipates Apple will ship between 3 to 5 million units in 2026, with the generation two version poised for up to 20 million shipments in 2027.
