YouTube has officially launched a new subscription option, Premium Lite, aimed at offering a budget-friendly alternative to its standard Premium plan. While it comes at a lower cost, Premium Lite provides a more limited set of features tailored for users who want to enjoy ad-free content without the need for downloads or background playback.
This new plan allows subscribers to experience "most videos ad-free" across various categories, including gaming, fashion, beauty, and news. However, users should be aware that ads may still appear in music content, Shorts, and during search or browsing activities.
Priced at $7.99 per month, Premium Lite is a more affordable choice compared to the $13.99 monthly cost of the full Premium subscription. This results in a significant savings of $6 each month, or $72 annually, making it an attractive option for users on a budget.
Currently, Premium Lite is being offered as a pilot program for users in the United States, with plans to gradually roll out the option to users in Germany, Thailand, and Australia. YouTube has expressed intentions to expand Premium Lite to additional countries later this year.
With over 125 million subscribers globally, YouTube aims to attract even more users with this new tier, focusing on individuals who may not be interested in features like downloading content or using YouTube Music.
