Apple Introduces Enhanced Features to Ensure Children Access Age-Appropriate Content

Apple is stepping up its efforts to protect children from accessing inappropriate content on their devices. The tech giant is rolling out new features that will help parents control the apps their kids can use and ensure they only view age-appropriate content. From tightening the account setup process to updating global age ratings on apps, Apple is making it easier for parents to safeguard their children's online experiences.

Previously, setting up an Apple Account for a child required a credit card for verification. However, Apple is now implementing stricter measures by checking the payment history and previous use of Face ID or Touch ID on the adult's account to verify their identity. This added layer of security aims to prevent minors from bypassing restrictions set by their parents.

Apple is also introducing a feature that allows parents to share their kids' age range with developers, ensuring that only age-appropriate apps are displayed to minors. This information is shared without revealing sensitive data, offering parents more control over their children's app selections.

Later this year, Apple will display global age ratings on apps, helping parents determine the suitability of content for their kids. Apps will be categorized into age groups ranging from 4+ to 18+, with descriptions of the type of content included in each rating.
