Recent data from Canalys reveals that Oppo has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the leading smartphone brand in Southeast Asia in 2024. The company successfully shipped 16.9 million units in the region, capturing an 18% market share and marking a 14% year-on-year growth.
In second place is Samsung, which shipped 16.6 million devices, translating to a 17% market share, though it experienced a decline of 9% in shipments compared to 2023. Both Transsion and Xiaomi are tied for third position, with each brand recording 15.5 million shipments and a 16% share. Importantly, Transsion saw substantial growth at 41%, while Xiaomi’s growth was comparatively modest at 26%.
Vivo rounds out the top five with 12.3 million devices shipped, holding a 14% market share and achieving a 14% increase in shipments year-on-year. The overall smartphone market in Southeast Asia reached 96.7 million units in 2024, reflecting an 11% increase from the previous year.
Examining the data for the fourth quarter of 2024, Transsion leads with 4.1 million shipments and a 17% share, marking a 4% growth year-on-year. Oppo follows closely with 3.9 million shipments and a 16% market share, maintaining a growth rate of 9%. Xiaomi managed to ship 3.8 million units, also achieving a 16% share but only a 5% growth. Conversely, Samsung’s performance dipped, with 3.6 million shipments and a 15% market share, representing a 15% drop compared to the prior year. Vivo shipped 3.5 million devices, capturing 14% of the market and improving its shipments by 10% compared to the previous year.
According to Canalys, the Oppo A18 emerged as the best-selling model across the region last year, contributing significantly to Oppo's overall sales performance. Additionally, the Oppo A3x played a crucial role in driving the brand's success. Despite facing a decline in shipments, Samsung has increased its average selling price by 14%, from $285 in Q4 2023 to $326 in Q4 2024, indicating a strategic pivot towards higher-priced models.
