For years, the Alert Slider has been a defining characteristic of OnePlus and Oppo flagship devices, providing users with a convenient way to toggle between Silent, Vibrate, and Ring modes. However, emerging rumors indicate that the company might consider phasing out this feature in favor of a new customizable button similar to Apple’s Action Button found on the iPhone 15 Pro and the latest iPhone 16 series. This shift could signal a significant change in OnePlus's approach to user interface design, reflecting trends seen in competing flagship models.

Apple's Action Button offers a range of programmable functionalities; by default, it mutes the device, but users can customize it to launch the camera, activate the flashlight, or even run specific tasks via the Shortcuts app, among other options.
This potential overhaul has prompted mixed reactions among fans, with some expressing concern over losing an iconic feature.

This shift isn't entirely unprecedented. OnePlus previously removed the Alert Slider from the OnePlus 10T, citing enhancements in charging speed, battery size, and signal strength. The future of the Alert Slider remains uncertain, with the upcoming OnePlus 13 possibly being the last flagship to feature it—unless, of course, foldable models continue to embrace this signature element.
The OnePlus Open 2 and Oppo Find N5 have committed to retaining the Slider for now. With a teaser for the Find N5 set to launch soon on February 20, fans can look forward to at least a few more devices preserving this beloved feature.
