Google Messages Introduces WhatsApp Video Call Integration

Source: Date:

Google Messages is set to enhance its functionality with an exciting new feature that will allow users to make video calls via WhatsApp directly from the Messaging app. This feature was uncovered through an APK teardown of the latest version of Google Messages, indicating that a significant integration between the two platforms is on the horizon.

When both the sender and the recipient of a message have WhatsApp installed, users will notice a new video icon in the top right corner of the chat interface. By tapping this icon, users can initiate a "WhatsApp Video Call" seamlessly.

It’s important to note that this video call feature will be available only for one-on-one conversations. In cases of group chats, or if the contact does not have WhatsApp, Google Messages will revert to using Google Meet for video calls.

While the current setup looks promising, changes may occur before the official release of this integration. It would be ideal if users had the choice between using WhatsApp and Google Meet for their video calls, allowing for a more flexible calling experience.

Although the launch date for this feature remains uncertain, it is actively being developed and is expected to roll out within the next few weeks.
