Disney Set to Debut Standalone ESPN Sports Streaming Service in 2025

Disney has announced its plans for a new standalone sports streaming service under the ESPN brand, set to launch in 2025, following the previous attempt to launch Venu Sports with Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox last year. During the recent earnings call, CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston outlined strategies to unify ESPN+ and all ESPN networks into a single flagship service in early fall, which will be integrated into the ESPN app.
Disney aims to create an “unlike anything available in the marketplace today” digital platform that caters specifically to sports fans, offering a comprehensive suite of ESPN networks and ESPN+, along with enhanced interactive and personalized features for users.
"ESPN’s flagship offering that will launch in early fall has been and remains our priority. We expect an elevated product and content experience — all housed within the ESPN app — that will be a unique destination for sports enthusiasts," stated Bob Iger, CEO, along with CFO Hugh Johnston.
Currently, Disney's sports offerings are somewhat convoluted. While ESPN content is available through various live TV streaming services like Fubo TV and Hulu+, access to ESPN’s cable networks requires these subscriptions. The upcoming ESPN service is expected to streamline access for fans.Image credit: Disney
