Samsung Discontinues Its Messaging App to Promote Google Messages

When the latest Galaxy S25 series was unveiled, it became evident that Samsung was taking a bold step by excluding its own messaging application, Samsung Messages, from the new devices. Initially, many presumed this was a mere oversight. However, the South Korean tech giant has since confirmed that it is officially retiring the app to encourage users to adopt Google Messages instead. Samsung has officially stated that it is sunsetting Samsung Messages and transitioning all messaging services to Google Messages. As a result, the app has been removed from the Google Play Store, meaning that users of the Galaxy S25 are left with Google Messages as their sole option unless they venture into alternative messaging apps. “Through our continued collaboration with Google, we have made the decision to migrate all messaging services to Google Messages, as it offers a more robust user experience with RCS messaging capabilities,” said a Samsung spokesperson. Current Samsung Messages users on older models can still utilize the app; however, those who may have been relying on the app for its features should be aware that certain functionalities may be limited in the future. In fact, users on Verizon networks have already reported that the app will stop supporting RCS in January, raising security concerns as well. As Samsung moves towards a singular messaging platform, it is advising its users to transition to Google Messages for a more secure and feature-rich experience.
