Exciting news is on the horizon for Apple fans, as the details of the long-rumored foldable iPhone begin to surface. An insider leak has provided key specifications that suggest this innovative device will rival existing models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Notably, the foldable iPhone is characterized by its impressive 12-inch inner display and a sleek design, aimed at capturing the hearts of tech enthusiasts and iOS loyalty alike. According to the leak from X account HaYaO, the foldable iPhone is set to be structured as a book-style device. When folded, it will reach a thickness of only 9.2mm, and when unfolded, it will measure a slim 4.6 mm—thinner than its Samsung counterpart, which is 5.6 mm in its open form and 12.1 mm when closed. Additional information includes a unique design element where "the left rear folds greatly," as mentioned by tipster Jukanlosreve, suggesting a sophisticated folding mechanism on that side of the phone. The device will feature a Samsung-supplied screen, utilizing a new technology called UTG Lens, believed to be a modified version of the ultra-thin glass currently found in Samsung's foldable products. Apple has engineered a custom hinge for the device, which will likely be produced externally, while the frame will be constructed from aluminum. Regarding the camera setup, the foldable iPhone is expected to include a dual rear camera system with both primary and wide-angle functionalities, utilizing glass-plastic hybrid lenses. Notably, the front camera may incorporate the new metalens technology under consideration for the iPhone 17, promoting a lighter design and more efficient use of internal space. The phone is anticipated to support two batteries, combining for a total capacity of 5,000mAh, with a manufacturing technique to maximize energy storage without increasing the physical battery size. Set to launch in fall 2026, likely alongside the iPhone 18, Apple's foldable iPhone is projected to achieve substantial sales, with estimates ranging between 8 to 10 million units in its first year, and ambitions to reach up to 20 million units in 2027. As Apple looks to attract iOS loyalists who have held off on other foldable options, the introduction of its first foldable phone comes with high expectations, marking a significant step in the evolution of the iPhone lineup.
