Recent reports from The Elec indicate that the next generation of MacBook Air will utilize an advanced oxide TFT LCD panel, similar to the technology currently found in the MacBook Pro lineup. This decision may disappoint those hoping for an OLED display in the upcoming Air model, as previous speculation suggested that an OLED version wouldn't be arriving until at least 2027.

The choice to opt for an oxide TFT LCD rather than OLED is principally driven by the high costs associated with OLED technology in the laptop market. Sales figures for the latest iPad Pro indicate that the premium price of devices featuring OLED screens may deter consumers, prompting Apple to favor more cost-effective oxide TFT LCDs for the time being.
Interestingly, the report forecasts that OLED versions of the MacBook Air may not surface until around 2029, marking a significant delay for fans awaiting this upgrade.
However, oxide TFT LCDs bring notable benefits over the traditional amorphous silicon TFTs that have been used in existing MacBook Air models. These panels provide enhanced electron mobility, resulting in smoother visual performance and better overall efficiency. Users can already see the advantages of this technology presently showcased in the MacBook Pro models.
