Exclusive Look at the Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design: A Flagship with Racing Heritage

Source: Date:

The Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design is the pinnacle of Honor's smartphone lineup, showcasing impressive high-end specifications akin to the Magic7 Pro. However, it stands out not just with its robust performance but also with a luxurious Porsche Design aesthetic, enhanced display protection, and subtle improvements in its already outstanding camera system. A noteworthy upgrade is the inclusion of a larger battery, ensuring longevity without compromising power.

Following the global launch of the Magic7 series, we had the opportunity to explore both the Provence Purple and Agate Ash (Gray) variants of the Magic7 RSR. Here are our initial thoughts.

Design-wise, the Magic7 RSR carries a heftier feel compared to its Pro counterpart. True to prior Porsche Design models, it features a pronounced hexagonal camera island with angular lines paying homage to Porsche's racing heritage. Additionally, the sleek “Flyline” design flowing along the back perfectly complements the high-performance aesthetic.

The back features durable glass combined with Honor's NanoCrystal Shield technology, enhancing scratch and drop resistance. A matte satin finish not only adds elegance but also improves grip, making the device comfortable to hold without a case.

Turning our attention to the camera setup, the Magic7 RSR maintains the impressive triple-camera array of the Magic7 Pro, but with a notable enhancement: the periscope zoom camera now boasts an expanded f/1.9 aperture compared to the f/2.6 found in the Pro model. This change allows for greater light capture, while a new LiDAR sensor enhances video stabilization.

The primary 50MP camera retains its versatile f/1.4-f/2.0 aperture, paired with a 50MP ultrawide sensor inherited from the Magic7 Pro.

Now, let’s talk about the display. The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED screen showcases a fashionable micro quad curve design featuring a protective layer of Honor's NanoCrystal Shield, reported to be ten times more resistant to scratching and drops than standard glass.

At the front, a 50MP selfie camera resides within a pill-shaped cutout, combined with a 3D sensor that enhances facial recognition and portrait depth effects. The device also features an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, ensuring quick and secure access, as expected from a flagship in 2025. Coupled with a robust 5,850mAh silicon carbon battery, users can anticipate impressive battery life, supporting 100W wired and 80W wireless charging capabilities.

Under the hood, the Magic7 RSR is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, with configurations offering up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This setup promises exceptional performance, although thorough testing will confirm just how well it holds up.

On the software side, the demo unit we explored was running Honor MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15, which features an updated suite of AI functionalities including the innovative Magic Portal, AI Super Zoom, and enhanced translation capabilities with Google Gemini.

In summary, the Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design has made a bold statement as a top-tier flagship device, boasting an impressive array of specifications that position it among the best in the Android market. Stay tuned for more detailed insights, including benchmarking results and photography comparisons, in our upcoming full review.
