WhatsApp is gearing up to launch an innovative feature that places Meta AI prominently on users' home screens. This new addition, which is a home screen widget designed specifically for Android devices, aims to enhance user interaction with the AI technology offered by Meta.
The widget will be available on an optional basis, appearing only for users who currently have access to Meta AI. As of now, this access is limited to specific countries and select user groups, meaning not everyone will have the widget immediately upon launch.
The interface of the widget is user-friendly and divided into two sections. Users can click on the left side to ask Meta AI any questions they might have, or they can select the right side to choose a photo that can be quickly shared with the AI. This opens up possibilities for the chatbot to edit the photo, explain its details, or answer related queries.
In addition to the widget, WhatsApp is also developing a new tab dedicated to AI chats, which will be integrated into the bottom navigation bar of the app—again, only accessible to those already utilizing Meta AI.
At this time, it remains uncertain when these features will transition from beta testing to full availability for all eligible users; it may take several weeks or even months. Nonetheless, WhatsApp users can anticipate a deeper integration of Meta AI in the near future.
