However, scammers have devised a tactic to manipulate users into disabling these protections themselves.

The crux of this scam involves carefully crafted "warning" messages that prompt users to reply with "Y" or "N," or to respond in some way. Following these instructions may lead users to exit the chat and return to click on a now-activated malicious link. By replying, users inadvertently disable the app's protective measures and signal to scammers that they are vulnerable to such tactics, potentially resulting in an influx of similar scams targeting them.
