In a surprising turn of events at CES 2025, Nintendo's legal team reportedly confronted accessory maker Genki regarding an unofficial mockup of the highly anticipated Switch 2. French journalist Julien Tellouck, who was present at the event, shared insights into the encounter, stating that Nintendo's lawyers visited Genki's booth after the display raised eyebrows among attendees. According to Tellouck, Genki representatives maintained that they had not breached any agreements, as they had never signed a non-disclosure agreement with Nintendo. Nintendo responded, clarifying, "The gaming hardware that Genki is claiming to be Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and was not provided to the company by Nintendo." Despite Genki's assertion of being in the clear legally, the company made an early exit from CES amidst the unfolding controversy. The incident highlights the ongoing secrecy surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2, as gamers speculate about its features, including backward compatibility akin to Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S.
