Lenovo has officially introduced its latest gaming handheld, the Legion Go S, marking a significant entry into the portable gaming market. This device becomes the first non-Valve handheld to run SteamOS natively while also offering a version equipped with Windows 11 Home, providing gamers with a flexible choice tailored to their gaming preferences and needs.

The Legion Go S sports a plastic exterior and features fixed joysticks, designed for budget-conscious gamers seeking robust performance. It can be configured with either AMD's powerful Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor or the freshly co-developed Ryzen Z2 Go processor. The latter boasts 4x Zen 3 cores, eight threads, a maximum clock speed of 4.3GHz, and an RDNA 2 GPU with 12 cores, all while maintaining a configurable TDP of 15-30W.

For memory and storage, Lenovo offers up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM operating at 6400MHz, along with a 1TB PCIe SSD option, while base models start with 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage space.
Cooling performance is enhanced with the inclusion of ColdFront technology, featuring a large fan and substantial heat sinks, ensuring that the device remains cool even during intense gaming sessions.

The Legion Go S features an impressive 8-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen's 16:10 aspect ratio and peak brightness of 500 nits contribute to a vibrant gaming experience.

This handheld also includes 23 buttons, Hall Effect joysticks illuminated with RGB lighting, and an ample selection of I/O options comprising 2x USB4 ports (supporting Thunderbolt 4, DisplayPort 1.4, and Power Delivery 3.0), a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot. Connectivity features WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Weighing in at 740 grams, the Legion Go S packs a 55.5 Whr battery that supports 65W charging and comes with an included charger.
Available in Glacier White and Nebula Violet color options, the starting price for the Ryzen Z2 Go version with SteamOS is set at $500 for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage model, with deliveries anticipated for May. The Windows 11 variant, featuring 32GB RAM and 1TB storage, will retail for $730 and is expected to launch later this month.
