The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is reportedly nearing a decision concerning allegations against Apple regarding anti-competitive practices linked to its App Store. The accusations stem from a complaint filed by the 'Together We Fight Society' (TWFS) in 2021, which highlighted concerns over Apple's App Store policies and associated fees. In July of last year, the CCI reached a preliminary finding suggesting that Apple might be misusing its dominant position within the digital marketplace in India. In response, Apple argued that the information revealed by the CCI contained sensitive data and claimed that its comprehensive report was not widely accessible, although it was available to parties such as TWFS. Currently, the timeline for formally announcing the commission's findings remains uncertain, leaving open the possibility of financial penalties for Apple. The tech giant is anticipated to maintain its earlier stance, asserting that its market share in India is minor and does not constitute a monopoly that warrants such accusations. Nonetheless, there are indications that Apple may have to adapt its App Store practices in India, especially following the CCI's prior direction to Google, requiring the acceptance of third-party payment methods for its Play Store. As these legal matters often extend over lengthy periods, it's expected that Apple will contest the findings, leading to ongoing appeals and further delays before a definitive resolution is reached.
