The new image sensors being developed by Samsung employ a cutting-edge three-layer stacked architecture. Historically, the first iPhone to feature Sony's image sensors was the iPhone 4s, which debuted in 2011 with an 8MP rear camera. The early iPhone models sourced their image sensors from various manufacturers including Omnivision Technologies and Micron, paving the way for the sophisticated imaging systems of today.
Beyond the camera upgrades, the iPhone 18 series will reportedly be the first to utilize an application processor (AP) designed by TSMC using its cutting-edge 2nm process node. These advancements are set to debut in September 2026, making waves in the smartphone landscape.
