Alleged Cybercriminal Targeting Major Telecom Companies Arrested

Source: Date:
Cameron John Wagenius, known online as "Kiberphant0m," has been apprehended by law enforcement for his involvement in illicit activities affecting AT&T and Verizon users. Reports indicate that Wagenius disseminated stolen customer call records and had previously confessed to breaching at least 15 telecommunications companies' security systems. Wielding his hacking skills, he allegedly leaked sensitive call logs for high-profile figures, including President-elect Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, and even made threats to expose further presidential communications. In addition to stealing call logs from AT&T, he offered stolen data related to Verizon's push-to-talk customers and provided services aimed at SIM-swapping these users. In a related incident, two other individuals, identified as Moucka and hacker John Binns, faced charges for acquiring 50 billion call and text records from AT&T last November. One of the accused, Judische, is said to have unlawfully outsourced stolen data to Wagenius and other criminals. Following these events, Wagenius has been charged with multiple offenses related to the unlawful collection and attempted distribution of confidential phone records. Allison Nixon, chief research officer at the cybersecurity firm Unit 221B, played a critical role in identifying Wagenius and Judische, facing harassment from their associates for her efforts. This latest arrest underscores a growing concern regarding cybersecurity and data privacy among leading telecommunications providers.
