On October 9th, reports emerged regarding MediaTek's upcoming mobile application processor (AP), the Dimensity 9400+, expected to feature in flagship smartphones in 2025. The Dimensity 9300 achieved impressive performance in the vivo X100 series, paving the way for its successor, the Dimensity 9400, which is set to power the upcoming vivo X200 line.
Similar to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400+, which offers incremental performance enhancements, is anticipated to challenge Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, known as the fastest mobile chipset available. While the Dimensity 9400 boasts a peak clock speed of 3.63 GHz, the Snapdragon 8 Elite can reach an impressive 4.32 GHz. The new Dimensity chip may increase its clock speed to around 3.70 GHz, but it is clear that Qualcomm's offering will still dominate in terms of maximum speed.
According to renowned leaker Digital Chat Station, Oppo's upcoming Find X8 series will be utilizing the Dimensity 9400+, which will feature three models with screen sizes of 6.3 inches, 6.6 inches, and 6.8 inches respectively. This series is set to launch in the first half of the next year, showcasing MediaTek's commitment to providing competitive alternatives in the flagship smartphone market.
Much like the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which consists of two Prime CPU cores and six Performance CPU cores, the Dimensity 9400 also omits efficiency cores. This might limit its battery management capabilities but highlights the focus on sheer processing power. However, MediaTek has faced challenges in establishing a foothold in the U.S. market, where it is often perceived as a budget chipmaker, in contrast to the established brand recognition enjoyed by Qualcomm and its Snapdragon processors.
