According to the report, this innovative doorbell will utilize Apple's proprietary Proxima wireless networking chip, ensuring that Face ID scans are processed locally on the device for enhanced privacy and speed. Furthermore, users will be able to back up their doorbell footage to iCloud, potentially increasing Apple's subscription revenue streams.

There is currently speculation about whether Apple will release a compatible smart lock or collaborate with existing HomeKit-compatible smart lock manufacturers. Additionally, the doorbell is expected to embrace the Thread smart home standard amid its ongoing development.

In tandem with the smart doorbell, Apple is rumored to be working on a smart home hub device that is similar to Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Hub. This smart hub is expected to feature a 6-inch touchscreen and a new Apple operating system that focuses on smart home control, integration with Apple Intelligence, and even FaceTime capabilities.
