Meta has confirmed that starting January 1, 2025, WhatsApp will cease to support older Android devices running on Android KitKat (version 4.4) or earlier. This decision comes as WhatsApp evolves with new features and functionalities that demand more up-to-date hardware.
The update will impact a range of devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, and Sony. Users are strongly encouraged to back up their WhatsApp data on newer devices to avoid potential data loss once the support period concludes.
Previously, Meta announced a similar support phase-out for older iPhone models, with those devices slated to be supported until May 2025.
