Nokia Introduces Robust 5G-Enabled 8K 360° Camera for Industrial Applications

Nokia is making a comeback in the industrial technology space with the launch of its new “world's first 5G 360° camera tailored for industrial use.” This innovative device is capable of live-streaming 8K video paired with spatial audio while utilizing low-latency connectivity options, including 5G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. Though designed for industrial applications, the Wi-Fi only version stands as the more affordable option; however, it remains inaccessible to everyday consumers.

This camera boasts a rugged design that features an IP67 water resistance rating and shock resistance, making it capable of enduring extreme temperatures as well. Moreover, it incorporates cybersecurity measures with secure software and built-in security hardware to protect against potential threats.

Integrated with the Nokia Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) software solution, the Nokia 360 Camera allows for teleoperation of industrial machines, remote monitoring, inspection processes, and enhanced situational awareness.

By delivering 360° video and advanced 3D OZO Audio, the platform equips companies with the tools they need to enhance analytics, overlay data, and explore extended reality features.

One of the camera's first notable deployments is in Pyhäsalmi Mine, Europe's deepest mine, where it is utilized for research and development as well as remote operations training in collaboration with the Finnish company Callio Pyhäjärvi.

Sami Ranta, General Manager for RXRM at Nokia, remarked: “Nokia RXRM empowers industrial clients to improve their operational processes by reducing costs related to product support and field activities. The addition of a 5G-enabled industrial camera product to RXRM offers a comprehensive solution for real-time remote applications, including situational awareness, teleoperation, and large-scale sports and entertainment events.”
