Nothing OS 5.0 beta expands to Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus

Source: Date:

Nothing is continuing to roll out its next-generation software preview to more users. After initially launching the Nothing OS 5.0 beta for the Phone (3) in late August, the company is now extending the open beta to two additional models: the Nothing Phone (2a) and the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. The Phone (3), meanwhile, has already begun receiving the stable version of the update.

Users who want to try the beta can do so by downloading the latest Nothing Beta Hub app from Nothing’s official website. Once installed, the app can be accessed through Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub. From there, users can tap Check version and select Join Beta. The beta build is typically delivered over the air within a few minutes.

Because this is still pre-release software, Nothing advises users to back up their data before installing it. The beta may contain bugs or unfinished features, and returning to the stable version through the Request Rollback option will erase all data on the device.

Nothing OS 5.0 introduces a broad visual and functional refresh. Highlights include a new system font, a redesigned Settings layout, a fresh default home screen theme, additional lock screen clock styles, and a dedicated Glyph app. The update also separates notifications and Quick Settings, adds live updates to the status bar, and brings MCP support to Essential Space, along with several other improvements detailed in the official changelog.

According to Nothing’s release timeline, the stable version of Nothing OS 5.0 is expected to arrive on the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus in mid-November. The Phone (4b) is scheduled to enter the open beta phase in mid-December. The Phone (3a) Lite and CMF Phone 2 Pro will not receive a beta build and are instead set to get the stable release in late December and mid-January, respectively.

Older devices, however, will not receive the update. Nothing has confirmed that the Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of their major software support cycle and will not be updated to Nothing OS 5.0.
