Apple Is Already Building a Bigger HomeView With a Motorized Arm

Apple’s first HomeView may have only just arrived, but the company appears to be preparing a more ambitious successor. According to a new report, Apple is developing a larger, more advanced smart display that could address some of the current model’s biggest limitations.

Last week, Apple introduced the HomeView, its first smart home screen combined with a speaker. The device is clearly aimed at competing with products like Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub, marking Apple’s effort to gain a stronger foothold in the smart home display market.

However, the first version is not without flaws. The HomeView seems designed primarily for users who are already deeply invested in Apple’s ecosystem and who have not committed to competing smart home platforms. While that audience may be larger than it appears, the device still has noticeable drawbacks, including a screen that cannot swivel.

Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is aware of that limitation and is working on an upgraded version. The next model could launch under a name such as HomeView Ultra, HomeView Max, or even HomeView 360, and it is expected to feature a larger 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm.

That motorized arm would solve the original model’s lack of swiveling, allowing the screen to move and follow the user. Gurman also claims that the current HomeView is an older product that spent a significant amount of time waiting in warehouses for its software to be ready.

That delay may explain some of its hardware choices, including its large bezels, A18 chip, and 8GB of RAM. The device reportedly faced several delays before finally launching.

The larger HomeView is currently codenamed J595 and is said to be planned for release in 2027 or 2028. It is expected to recognize who is speaking and adjust the display accordingly, with the screen following users around the room thanks to its metal arm.

As expected, the more advanced model will likely cost more than the standard HomeView, though pricing details have not yet been revealed.
