Volkswagen has followed through on its promise to make the ID.Cross more affordable, launching the entry-level 37 kWh version in Europe. First revealed in July alongside the larger 52 kWh variant, the new model is aimed at buyers looking for a compact electric vehicle with a lower purchase price and practical everyday range.

While the 52 kWh ID.Cross is offered with a stronger 211 hp front-mounted electric motor, the 37 kWh model can be chosen with either 135 hp or 116 hp. In the most efficient 116 hp configuration, Volkswagen claims a WLTP range of 201 miles. DC charging from 10% to 80% is said to take 23 minutes, and the car can reach 160 km/h, making it suitable for both city driving and highway trips.

The most accessible version, combining the 37 kWh battery with the 116 hp motor, is priced at €27,995, keeping it just under the €28,000 mark that Volkswagen had previously indicated.

Volkswagen is offering the ID.Cross in three trim levels: Trend, Life and Style. The base Trend trim includes Park Distance Control, smartphone connectivity through App Connect and a large central infotainment screen. Moving up to Life and Style brings additional comfort and technology, including Connected Travel Assist with predictive driving support, a Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic sunroof and electrically adjustable 12-way seats with massage functionality.
