iPhone Duo to Gain Apple Pencil USB-C Support and Updated Reachability Soon

Introduction: Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo is preparing to receive one of its first notable software enhancements after launch, bringing support for Apple Pencil along with a foldable-friendly version of Reachability.

When Apple first introduced the iPhone Duo in September, the company confirmed that Apple Pencil compatibility would arrive later in the year. Because the device was only scheduled to hit shelves this Friday and Apple often spaces out larger software updates, many expected owners to wait longer for the feature. However, new information suggests the update is closer than anticipated.

According to a tipster on X, Apple Pencil support is already functional in the iOS 27.2 release candidate, which was distributed on Monday. The final version of iOS 27.2 is expected to launch on or around Monday, October 26. That means customers who secured an iPhone Duo pre-order at launch may only need to wait a few days before using a stylus on the device.

There is one important limitation: the iPhone Duo will only support the Apple Pencil (USB-C). Other versions, including the Apple Pencil Pro and older Apple Pencil models, will not work. Apple currently sells the USB-C model for $79 in the United States. With compatible hardware, users will be able to sketch, take notes, and mark up documents across either of the Duo’s displays.

Apple is also reportedly preparing a customized version of Reachability for the iPhone Duo. On standard iPhones, Reachability lowers the upper portion of the screen to make it easier to use one-handed. On the Duo, the feature is expected to shift the left or right side of the interface closer to the user with a tap, making the wider foldable screen more manageable.

Apple has not yet confirmed which software update will introduce Reachability support for the iPhone Duo.
