Apple Pencil Support and Reachability Are Coming to the iPhone Duo Soon

Source: Date:

Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo is preparing for its release, and one of the features promised during its debut may arrive sooner than expected. When the device was first announced in September, Apple indicated that Apple Pencil support would come later this year. Since the phone is set to hit stores this Friday and Apple typically delivers major software updates in December, many assumed users would have to wait longer. However, new reports suggest that support is already close to launch.

According to tipster Max Weinbach on X, Apple Pencil functionality is included in the iOS 27.2 release candidate that began rolling out on Monday. The feature is reportedly working, and iOS 27.2 is expected to be released around Monday, October 26. That means customers who receive an iPhone Duo at launch may only need to wait a few days before gaining stylus support.

There is one important limitation: the iPhone Duo will only work with the Apple Pencil (USB-C). Other models, including the Apple Pencil Pro and older Apple Pencil versions, will not be compatible. The USB-C Apple Pencil is priced at $79 in Apple’s US store. Apple says users will be able to use it for note-taking, sketching, and marking up documents across either of the Duo’s displays.

In addition to Pencil support, Apple is reportedly planning to bring Reachability to the iPhone Duo later this year. On existing iPhones, Reachability lowers the upper part of the screen to make one-handed use easier. On the iPhone Duo, the feature is expected to work differently, pulling the left or right edge of the display within reach after a tap. Apple has not yet confirmed which iOS update will introduce this version of Reachability.
