Samsung Health Enhances Sleep Coaching and Expands Running Coach Features

Samsung's latest update to its fitness app, Samsung Health, brings significant improvements to its Sleep Coaching and Running Coach features, making it easier for users to enhance their sleep quality and running performance.

Previously, users needed a complete week of sleep data within a month to initiate Sleep Coaching; however, this update reduces that requirement to just three days of sleep data gathered over the past two weeks. During the setup, users will complete a survey about their sleep habits, including factors like sleep regularity, interruptions, caffeine and alcohol consumption, as well as overall satisfaction with their sleep. Based on this information, the app assigns users a unique Sleep Animal and curates a personalized coaching program spanning four to eight weeks, modifying recommendations as sleep patterns evolve. Additionally, users receive daily habit checklists and tips, such as limiting screen time before bed and avoiding late-night caffeine consumption.

Samsung Health Sleep Balance Graph

A new feature, the pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph, consolidates five key sleep metrics—sleep time, sleep regularity, nighttime awakenings, sleep satisfaction, and Energy Score—into a single visual representation. Morning insight messages summarize insights from the previous night, linking to weekly and comprehensive reports. To access the Sleep Coaching feature, users need Samsung Health version 6.24 or newer on a Galaxy phone with Android 11 or later, paired with a Galaxy Watch4 series or newer, Galaxy Fit3 or newer, or the Galaxy Ring.

Moreover, the Running Coach function is receiving notable upgrades, expanding its training tiers from 10 to 12 levels, catering to both intermediate and advanced runners. Users can base their training plans on a 12-minute running assessment or historical running data. The new version also allows users to export their workouts as templates optimized for social media sharing, and due to a collaboration with Strava, users can now import their favorite Strava routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health.

Upgrade to Running Coach

To utilize the enhanced Running Coach features, users must have Samsung Health version 6.30.2 or newer on an Android 10 or later device, along with a Samsung account and a Galaxy Watch8 series or newer. These new features are rolling out gradually and will be available through Samsung Health updates throughout the month, though specific availability may vary by region and device model.
