Introduction
Volkswagen has officially announced the arrival of the ID.Tiguan, a new electric SUV that aims to enhance the user experience by addressing previous challenges faced by the ID.4 model. With a refined design, improved features, and upgraded technology, the ID.Tiguan promises to capture the attention of crossover enthusiasts and EV aficionados alike.
The ID.4, which debuted in 2020, quickly gained significant traction in the market, particularly in the US, thanks to its crossover appeal. However, it was not without its issues. In response, Volkswagen has introduced the ID.Tiguan as a successor that corrects many of the flaws of its predecessor.
VW ID.Tiguan Overview
The new fully electric Tiguan features a more refined and recognizable Volkswagen design. It offers two battery options and is available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations, similar to the ID.4. The base version is equipped with a 58 kWh battery that powers a single motor on the rear axle, generating 190 horsepower.
Power and Range
For those seeking more power, the ID.Tiguan provides a 77 kWh battery option that is available in both RWD and AWD configurations. The RWD model produces 286 hp, while the AWD variant reaches up to 299 hp. The long-range version, featuring the 77 kWh battery with RWD, is capable of delivering an impressive 600 km of driving range on a single charge, as measured by the WLTP cycle—an upgrade from the ID.4's 550 km range.
Interior Enhancements
One of the most significant improvements in the ID.Tiguan is its interior. Volkswagen has reintroduced physical buttons on the steering wheel and added a new row of controls beneath the main infotainment screen, including a volume knob. Even the rear window controls have been updated to traditional buttons on the driver's door.
Advanced Technology
The vehicle's screens have also seen enhancements, with both the instrument cluster and infotainment display being larger than in previous models. A standout feature is the "retro mode," which replicates the instrument gauge cluster of classic VW models, mirroring a feature found in the recently launched ID.Polo.
Additional Features
Furthermore, the ID.Tiguan introduces convenient options like one-pedal driving, a compact frunk, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality—features that were notably absent in the ID.4.
Availability
The ID.Tiguan is confirmed to launch in the US, although the release will follow the European rollout scheduled for early 2027.
