In a significant move to bolster its fiber optic network, AT&T has entered into a groundbreaking multi-year agreement with Corning, committing over $3 billion for fiber optic cables. This strategic partnership aims to advance AT&T's ambitious target of connecting 60 million homes and businesses with high-speed fiber internet by 2030.
Currently, AT&T has successfully reached 30 million locations, achieving this milestone six months ahead of its original timeline. In its latest financial report for the second quarter of this year, AT&T announced a net gain of 646,000 subscribers across both consumer and business internet services, with 367,000 opting for fiber optic internet—a record-setting quarter for the company in terms of fiber and fixed wireless subscriptions.
The collaboration between AT&T and Corning is not new; they first forged a multi-year fiber agreement two years ago, valued at $1 billion, demonstrating their commitment to expanding fiber broadband infrastructure. Additionally, AT&T was instrumental in Corning's establishment of a cable manufacturing facility in Arizona, further solidifying their partnership.
