Qualcomm has officially announced its latest flagship chipsets, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, promising significant advancements in mobile computing. Built on an advanced 2nm process, these chipsets leverage the power of Oryon CPU cores that can reach clock speeds of up to 5.0GHz, enhancing performance and efficiency for next-generation mobile devices.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 feature cutting-edge 64-bit Oryon CPUs, which are complemented by new Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs to deliver exceptional graphics and processing capabilities.
Both chipsets are designed with two Prime cores operating at up to 5.0GHz, alongside six Performance cores running at up to 4.0GHz. They also include 16MB of Oryon FlexCache and support up to 24GB of LPDDR5X/6 RAM with speeds reaching 5,300MHz, along with UFS 5.0 storage technology.
Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 boasts a remarkable 13% boost in CPU performance, along with a 37% increase in CPU power efficiency, 44% enhancement in GPU performance, and a 35% uplift in NPU performance when compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Additionally, the chipset features a 33% increase in AI performance per watt, with Qualcomm highlighting a 50% larger shared memory for the Hexagon NPU in the Extreme model compared to the previous generation.
On the other hand, the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 provides a 10% improvement in CPU performance, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 35% enhanced GPU performance, and a 14% increase in NPU performance relative to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This version also features a 20% boost in AI performance per watt.
The new Snapdragon chipsets promise substantial enhancements in video recording capabilities as well. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 60fps, as well as 4K slow motion at 240fps, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 enables 8K recording at 30fps and 4K slow motion at 120fps.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro lineup, which is expected to launch later today, will be the first to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. Motorola has also confirmed that the Signature 27 will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC, while the OnePlus 16 is set to adopt the Extreme variant.
