Rumors Suggest Apple is Developing Two New Game Controllers

Apple, a company known for its innovative products, might be venturing into the gaming accessory market. Recent findings within the code of macOS 26.7 have revealed hints of two upcoming game controllers, signaling Apple's potential new direction in gaming hardware.

The macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate includes numerous references to unannounced devices, such as camera-equipped AirPods and next-gen HomePod mini models. Yet, the most intriguing discoveries are the identifiers T6502 and T1507, both tagged as game controllers.

While Apple hasn't historically focused on game controllers—besides the Pippin’s wireless controller—this move could be seen as a response to the growing demand for gaming solutions. The company has already invested significant resources in ensuring compatibility with popular third-party controllers from brands like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

Details regarding the two new controllers have come to light. Both models will feature an ABXY button layout, two clickable thumbsticks, shoulder buttons, analog triggers, and the usual Home and Menu buttons—essentially matching the current standards for gaming controllers.

The first model, the T6502, is the simpler version, supporting USB connectivity without any advanced features such as motion sensors or touchpads. However, it does include an Options button and can utilize four distinct haptic channels, allowing for enhanced vibration feedback.

Conversely, the T1507 is positioned as a more advanced model. It supports both USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and includes an accelerometer and gyroscope for additional input capabilities. Notably, it lacks an Options key and is equipped with a single haptic motor.

Interestingly, these references were present in the initial public release of macOS 26.7 but were subsequently removed or hidden in later updates, leading to speculation about Apple's future intentions. Should these controllers materialize, one can't help but wonder if there are larger gaming-related announcements on the horizon from Apple.
