Discovering Life with the BMW iX3: Our Long-Term Journey Begins

We're thrilled to embark on this exciting adventure with our brand-new BMW iX3 50 xDrive. As one of the first lucky customers to secure an allocation, we will be documenting our genuine experiences over the coming months. We'll dive into daily commuting, family road trips, and everything in between to provide you with a comprehensive look at what it's like to live with this electric SUV.

Our BMW iX3 will not only serve as a reliable daily driver but also as a versatile family vehicle for longer journeys. This unique perspective will allow us to evaluate its performance over time, going beyond the initial novelty and into the realities of everyday life.

Configuration Choices

Having had the opportunity to customize our vehicle, we made sure that every choice was purposeful and aligned with our needs.

We decided on the smaller 20-inch aerodynamic wheels. While the larger options can be eye-catching, our priority lies in achieving better range and ride comfort, as we plan to cover significant distances.

For the steering wheel, we opted for the M-Sport version purely based on personal preference. While the design is subjective, we prefer its aesthetic to the standard version with its unconventional center spoke.

We chose Brooklyn Grey for the exterior, complemented by a light white interior. This selection was made with practicality in mind, as we anticipate using the car frequently during hot summer months. A lighter interior should help in minimizing heat absorption.

Rather than selecting the M-Sport seats, we went for the standard seats, which offer more comfort during long travels. A noteworthy feature is the removable headrest of the front passenger seat, allowing it to fold down almost flat, creating ample space for long items like surfboards—something we’re excited to utilize.

The Innovation Package was an easy pick primarily because it includes a high-quality Harman/Kardon sound system along with a head-up display. Quality audio is essential for our journeys, and the HUD provides a practical way to stay updated on critical metrics without diverting attention from the road.

Lastly, we added the 22 kW AC charger option, thanks to our access to the necessary infrastructure. This choice also allows for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, enabling the iX3 to power external devices from its battery, a feature that might come in handy during future adventures.
