An Inside Look at the Xiaomi SkyNomad N70: Our Impressions

Source: Date:

After much anticipation, we had the chance to experience Xiaomi’s latest model, the SkyNomad N70, up close. As the smaller counterpart to the N90, the N70 has piqued our interest with its unique offering that combines functionality and luxury. In this article, we share our impressions of the interior and how it stacks up against its larger sibling.

The exterior of the SkyNomad N70 mirrors its larger N90 brother, featuring a sleek and stylish design. However, this article focuses on the N70's interior, highlighting its similarities and differences.

Xiaomi SkyNomad N70 Exterior Design

Both the N70 and N90 are powered by the same 1.5-liter engine, functioning as a range extender, and offer similar battery options. The N70's advantage lies in its lighter body, enabling it to achieve a remarkable 505 km of pure electric driving range. The N90, on the other hand, caters to longer travels with its larger fuel tank.

The most significant difference is in their seating configurations. The SkyNomad N70 features a five-seat design, ideal for personal use and executive travel, while the larger N90 can accommodate seven, making it apt for families and group outings.

Rear Seat Space of the N70

The adjustable rear bench of the N70 is a standout feature, capable of sliding along a span of 1.55 m. This flexibility allows owners to maximize rear legroom or cargo space as needed, offering ample comfort for even the tallest passengers.

Multiple Seat Configurations

Emphasizing versatility, the N70 provides various seating arrangements, including front seats that can rotate to face one another, turning the cabin into a cozy lounge setting when parked.

Rear Amenities

Rear passengers can enjoy heated seats, ample cup holders, and a refrigerator controlled through the front console. A striking 21.4-inch 3K display hangs from the roof, allowing for streaming movies, TV shows, or even gaming.

One feature absent from the N70 is the powered doors found in the N90. While this may seem trivial, it does add a touch of modern convenience that many users may miss.

A compact smartphone-like controller for rear cabin functions will also be available as an optional feature, although not present on the test model.

Interior Highlights

Up front, the N70 mirrors the luxury of the N90. The cabin boasts excellent materials and build quality, enveloping occupants in a premium atmosphere. The steering wheel features a distinctive design, and the digital instrument cluster presents essential information with clarity. An advanced head-up display further enhances the driver's experience.

The 16.1-inch central display serves as a command center, connecting to Xiaomi’s broader smart home ecosystem, allowing users to manage compatible devices from within the car.

Storage solutions are both practical and stylish, including several shelf-like compartments that wouldn't seem out of place in a home setting. The center console is adjustable and incorporates charging ports, additional storage, and another refrigerator that can maintain cool temperatures for several days post-vehicle shutdown.

The SkyNomad’s Unique Positioning

Xiaomi’s SkyNomad series targets a unique and potentially lucrative market segment. The N70 fuses the rugged presence of an SUV with the adaptability of a minivan, complemented by a luxurious interior.

As a newcomer to the automotive industry, Xiaomi’s ambition shines through its design and functionality. Instead of merely competing within established categories, the company strives to meet specific customer needs with tailored offerings.

The SkyNomad N70 stands as a testament to this philosophy, effectively catering to families, personal owners, and those seeking plush, chauffeur-driven experiences, all while balancing innovative technology, spaciousness, and luxury in a thoughtfully designed package.
