Recent leaks have brought to light intriguing developments regarding Apple's purported AirPods featuring built-in cameras. Despite earlier indications that the AirPods Ultra initiative may have been scrapped, new footage exhibiting the camera-enabled design has emerged, hinting at a potentially exciting innovation from the tech giant.

The leaked demonstration video was uncovered by MacRumors within the latest release candidate of macOS 26.7. In this brief clip, a user is shown interacting with their environment—specifically, picking up a book while inquiring about it. The accompanying voiceover states, “With Visual Intelligence, your world becomes savable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later.”

This aligns with earlier reports suggesting that the camera functionality within the AirPods would be primarily utilized by Siri to enhance Visual Intelligence. This feature is anticipated to allow the digital assistant to examine the wearer’s surroundings through the embedded cameras to offer pertinent information, although it is not expected to facilitate traditional photography.

Further analysis of the macOS 26.7 release candidate revealed references to configuring Visual Intelligence on the upcoming AirPods, including the codename B790. Additionally, an alert surfaced stating, “To get the most accurate information about things in your environment, make sure AirPods are not covered.”

Speculation around the product launch indicates that Apple may unveil these innovative AirPods in conjunction with the iPhone 18 Pro expected to be revealed in September. However, there are conflicting reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, suggesting a potential delay pushing the release to late 2027.
