In a move to enhance user interaction and convenience, Google has officially launched Tap to Share, an innovative feature designed for its Pixel lineup and select Samsung devices. This new functionality serves as Android's answer to Apple’s NameDrop, allowing users to effortlessly share contacts, photos, videos, and more simply by tapping two compatible devices together.
Currently, Tap to Share is available on Google Pixel devices starting from Pixel 6 as well as on Samsung's latest models, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8. Google has indicated plans to extend this feature to additional devices by the end of the year.
The sharing process is straightforward: to exchange contact information, both users need to have their phones on the home screen and bring them close. An instant two-way exchange will occur, enabling users to select which contact details they wish to share, or to merely receive the other person's contact card.
For sharing photos or videos, users can open the Share Sheet in any application, tap the devices together, and initiate the transfer. Should preferences change, users have the option to disable the Tap to Share feature anytime by navigating to Settings > Google > Quick Share > Tap to Share.
