The Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in London, will unveil the latest generation of Samsung foldables along with new smartwatches. Anticipation surrounds the introduction of a new wide foldable model in the Galaxy Z series, recently spotted with BTS member Jung Ho-seok.
While Samsung maintains a level of secrecy regarding specific details about upcoming devices, this article provides an overview of the leaks that have emerged, preparing you for the livestream on Wednesday.
New Naming Conventions
To clear up potential confusion, Samsung is revamping the naming scheme for the Galaxy Z series. The new wide model will simply be known as the Galaxy Z Fold8, rather than Z Fold Wide as earlier speculated. The successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 will be named Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Flip8 will retain its original naming format.
Limited New Models
Following the relatively unsuccessful launch of the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, which was a modified version of the Z Flip6, expectations for a Galaxy Z Flip8 FE have dimmed. Our extensive coverage of Z Flip leaks has revealed no indication of a new FE model.
A Promising New Entrant
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, available in a new wide form factor, is projected to be a significant success for Samsung. Inside sources suggest the company plans to manufacture more units of the Z Fold8 than the Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8.
A reported initial production order targets 2.8 million for the Z Fold8, 2.0 million for the Z Fold8 Ultra, and 1.5 million for the Z Flip8. Last year marked a transition as the Z Fold7 outsold its Flip counterpart for the first time, and analysts predict that the Fold8 will outperform its predecessors.
Design Specifications
The Galaxy Z Fold8 will adopt a book-style foldable design. Its cover display will be shorter than that of the Z Fold8 Ultra, resulting in a more compact device that balances features between the Ultra model and the Z Flip8. The cover display will feature a 5.5-inch diagonal with a resolution of 1,248 x 1,972 pixels.
Upon opening, users will find a 7.6-inch 4:3 display (2,448 x 1,848 pixels), a departure from the typical 1:1 aspect ratio usually found in book-style foldables. This design suits widescreen video consumption, though vertical scrolling will also remain user-friendly after rotating the device 90 degrees.
When unfolded, the device measures 4.5mm in thickness and weighs 201g, compared to the Z Flip7 at 188g and the Z Fold7 at 215g. It is expected to have an IP48 rating.
Camera Features
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 will incorporate two cameras: a 50MP wide camera with 2x in-sensor zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, although it appears there will be no telephoto camera. Additionally, two 10MP selfie cameras will be included.
Samsung has effectively confirmed that both the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, likely for all global units. The device will also be equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM in 256GB and 512GB variants, while the 1TB version will have 16GB of RAM.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Features
As the successor to the Z Fold7, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will also incorporate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for global versions. While retaining the 200MP main camera from its predecessor, it will upgrade the ultra-wide module to a 50MP sensor, while the telephoto and selfie cameras remain unchanged.
The cover display will retain a size of 6.5 inches with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,505 pixels, just below a 21:9 aspect ratio, while the inner display will feature a resolution of 2,256 x 2,504 pixels, an improvement over the Z Fold7. The Ultra model is expected to be slimmer but slightly heavier at 218g, with a thickness of 4.1mm when unfolded.
Battery Improvements
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will feature a battery upgrade to 5,000mAh, compared to its predecessor's 4,400mAh, promising an endurance rating of 51 hours. Meanwhile, the Z Fold8 will offer a 4,800mAh battery, surpassing the Z Fold7 and presenting new advancements with Si/C battery technology.
Both devices will support 45W fast charging and will likely offer 15W wireless charging, though details on specific power ratings remain unconfirmed.
Galaxy Z Flip8: The Final Flip?
Reports indicate that the Galaxy Z Flip8 might be the last foldable flip phone from Samsung, given the recent sales trends favoring the larger Fold devices. Regardless of its future, let's examine the anticipated specifications of the Flip8.
Weighing in at 180g, the new model is slightly lighter than its predecessor (188g) and measures 6.1mm unfolded, a reduction from 6.5mm. However, it will maintain the same 4,300mAh battery capacity as before, and there will be no changes to its cameras.
In some regions, including South Korea and Europe, the Galaxy Z Flip8 will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while others may receive Exynos 2600-powered versions instead.
This decision not to produce a Galaxy Z Flip8 FE based on the previous model is understandable and reflects Samsung's cautious approach regarding the Flip series' future.
Price Increases Expected
Leaked pricing for Europe suggests the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will begin at €2,200, a €100 increase compared to the previous model. The 512GB version will be priced at €2,400, while the 1TB variant will reach €2,800. In the United States, the starting price for the Ultra is reported to be $2,100.

Upcoming Galaxy Watches
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is anticipated to feature a substantial battery upgrade, rising from 590mAh to 800mAh, while incorporating the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor alongside 2GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. The Galaxy Watch9 will utilize a similar processor but will only see a minimal battery increase to 445mAh for the 44mm variant.
Samsung is not expected to release a Classic model this year but may reveal a new product known as Galaxy Able, rumored to be bone-conducting headphones. Additionally, a new AI-powered Health Companion has been teased by Samsung.
The 2026 Galaxy Watches will retain their distinctive squircle design. Multiple leaked renders for both models have surfaced; however, the Galaxy Able remains unconfirmed.
Pre-Registration Offers
Samsung has commenced pre-registrations for the upcoming Galaxy foldables, offering a $30 credit for early registrants. Samsung is advertising savings of up to $1,230, including trade-in deals.
Previous pre-registration incentives included larger credits, so the reduced $30 offer is disappointing. It appears Samsung may also be foregoing the traditional free storage upgrade, only covering 50% of the upgrade cost from 256GB to 512GB, pending further confirmation.
