Rising iPhone Loyalty Among Android Users: Insights from CIRP Data

Recent findings from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shed light on a notable trend in the smartphone market: the increasing loyalty of iPhone users, despite a steady influx of Android switchers. As new data emerges, it’s evident that iPhone loyalty is solidifying, revealing significant insights into consumer behavior and preferences in the competitive smartphone landscape.

Latest Data Highlights iPhone Loyalty Rates

CIRP's latest report indicates that 12% of new iPhone buyers transitioned from Android, with a remarkable 87% of buyers remaining loyal to the iPhone in the first quarter of 2026. This figure represents the highest loyalty rate recorded in the last three quarters. Notably, only 1% of new iPhone buyers came from feature phones, non-Android smartphones, or were purchasing their first phone.

Impressive Growth in Loyalty Rates

The latest loyalty rate of 87% shows a 3 percentage point increase from the previous quarter, which ended March 2025, when loyalty was recorded at 84%. In that quarter, 14% of new iPhone buyers were migrating from Android, while 2% came from feature phones or other smartphones.

Smartphone Users Choose Their Side

In the first quarter of 2024, the loyalty rate was slightly lower at 85%, with 13% of iPhone buyers originating from Android. Likewise, 2% transitioned from feature phones or other smartphone models.

Since the iPhone's debut in 2007 and the introduction of the first Android phone in 2008, consumers have typically gravitated towards one OS, resulting in established loyalty. A small portion does switch annually, but both iPhone and Android fans remain satisfied with the unique features their preferred operating systems offer, such as the introduction of Siri AI in iOS 27.

What Might Tempt Android Users to Switch?

While it's challenging to pinpoint substantial reasons for Android users to consider switching to iOS, innovative features such as a crease-free internal display on the iPhone Ultra or a groundbreaking design in the iPhone 20 could sway opinions. Such advances might entice users who currently favor Android’s foldable devices.

CIRP's data over the past three years reveal that iPhone loyalty has consistently hovered between an impressive 84% to 87%, highlighting a sustained preference for Apple products among consumers.

Philosophies Behind OS Loyalty

Ultimately, the choice between Android and iOS reflects an individual’s priorities. Those leaning towards Android appreciate customization and flexibility, while iOS advocates thrive on a seamless experience, often coining the phrase "It just works." The assurance that the operating system performs reliably out of the box makes iOS an attractive option for many.
