The vivo X500 Ultra is not expected to debut until early 2027, yet rumors surrounding its specifications continue to circulate. The latest insights from well-known Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station focus on the device's telephoto camera.
According to the leak, vivo's imaging team has yet to finalize the choice of the optimal 200MP sensor for the periscope telephoto camera. The engineers are currently considering three sensor dimensions: 1/1.12", 1/1.3" and 1/1.4". While a larger sensor typically delivers superior low-light capabilities and overall image quality, it also demands more internal space and introduces a more intricate design.
In contrast, the 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch sensors may provide a harmonious balance between thickness, design aesthetic, and imaging prowess. For reference, the existing vivo X300 Ultra incorporates a 1/1.4" sensor for its 3.7x telephoto lens, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is equipped with the 1/1.3-inch Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor.
This development aligns with previous rumors suggesting that vivo may abandon the concept of a dedicated 10x telephoto camera in favor of an in-sensor zoom technology, whatever that may entail. Coupling a large 200MP sensor with 10x optics could be perceived as overkill.
