A recent report indicates that Volvo is exploring the possibility of launching an electric sedan and station wagon in the US, with an anticipated arrival in 2028. Both models are already under development for the European market, making it relatively straightforward to adapt them for US consumers.

The upcoming vehicles are expected to be branded as part of the 60 or 70 series and will be manufactured in Europe. Notably, the wagon may feature a rugged Cross Country variant. Both models will utilize Volvo's 800V SPA3 architecture, which initially debuted with the EX60.

Volvo contemplates electric sedan and wagon for the US market

The projected starting prices in the US will be around €43,000 to €45,200. Volvo anticipates selling approximately 10,000 units annually in the region.

This announcement comes shortly after Volvo ceased sales of sedans and wagons in the US, shifting its focus entirely to SUVs and crossovers. Analysts believe that the brand's re-entry into these segments could be quite successful, as the new models may appeal to customers looking to distinguish themselves from the predominance of SUVs, thereby positioning Volvo as a "counter-culture cool" brand.
