During its recent event in Malaysia, Huawei unveiled the Pura 90s series alongside the FreeClip 2 S and MatePad Air (2026). We had the opportunity to experience these devices firsthand, and here’s a detailed overview of the updated MatePad Air for this year.

MatePad Air (2026)

Similar to its predecessor, the MatePad Air (2026) features a 12-inch display. However, it replaces the conventional IPS LCD panel with a vibrant OLED screen boasting a 144Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the display is enhanced with Huawei's PaperMatte coating, which gives it a paper-like appearance. This feature minimizes reflections, making the screen excellent for reading in addition to multimedia consumption.

Regarding multimedia, the device is equipped with a 6-array stereo speaker system, ensuring a superior audio experience.

This innovation brings the more budget-friendly MatePad Air closer to the premium MatePad Pro lineup, which also features the same PaperMatte display.

Powering the device is the Kirin T93C SoC, available with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, alongside a single storage option of 256GB.

The T93C chipset supports some AI-driven Pro features, according to Huawei's claims.

On the rear, the camera setup has been simplified to include only a 50MP main sensor, with the 8MP ultrawide camera from the previous generation being eliminated. A 12MP camera is situated on the front for selfies and video calls.

Powering the entire system is a robust 10,100 mAh battery, which supports 66W fast charging.

Despite its 12-inch size, the Air, as the name suggests, is remarkably thin and lightweight, measuring just 5.3mm in thickness and weighing 509 grams—a reduction of nearly 50 grams compared to its predecessor.

Available colors for the MatePad Air include Sakura Pink, Airy Blue, and White.

As always, the tablet is compatible with Huawei's accessories, including a detachable keyboard, often bundled at launch, and the M-Pencil Pro, which offers several smart features such as Air Mouse functionality, allowing users to interact with screen content from a distance without touching the display.
