Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 17 series in China, featuring significantly larger batteries compared to its predecessor, the Note 15 series, along with upgraded chipsets. The Pro model comes with a compact 6.83" display, which is considered small for this series.

In contrast, the standard model boasts a massive 7" display. This 120Hz OLED panel has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,396 pixels and can reach a peak brightness of 1,800 nits. The touchscreen remains responsive to wet or gloved hands.

One would expect a large display to be complemented by a substantial battery, and the Redmi Note 17 delivers with an 8,000mAh battery. This impressive capacity allows for up to 22 hours of short video playback or 10 hours of outdoor navigation. It has an energy density of 821Wh/L and is rated for 1,600 charge cycles. The battery supports 45W charging along with 22.5W reverse charging, which enables it to charge other devices.

Regarding durability, the Redmi Note 17 is rated IP65 for water and dust resistance, providing basic protection but not waterproof capabilities. Its exterior is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 7i.

Performance-wise, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, a 4nm (Samsung 4LPX) chip that includes 2x Cortex-A78 and 6x Cortex-A55 CPU cores, along with an Adreno 613 GPU. It comes equipped with options for 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Additionally, the SIM card slot supports microSD cards for expanded storage.

Other prominent features include an optical fingerprint reader, an IR blaster, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC support. Notably, the proximity sensor is virtual.

The Pro model features the same 6.83" display but with superior technology, providing 12-bit colors (compared to the 7" display's 8-bit) and a sharper resolution of 1,280 x 2,772 pixels. It can achieve a peak brightness of 3,500 nits, with DC dimming down to 80 nits and PWM dimming at 3,840Hz achieving brightness levels as low as 1 nit.

Despite being the smaller device, the Pro variant features a larger 9,000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, also rated for 1,600 charge cycles. It supports faster 67W charging while maintaining 22.5W reverse charging capabilities.

The Pro model is equipped with a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a similarly designed 4nm chip (Samsung 4LPX) with Cortex-A78 and A55 CPU cores arranged in a 4+4 configuration, coupled with a newer Adreno 710 GPU. It offers more RAM options with configurations of 8GB and 12GB, as well as storage choices of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB (UFS 2.2 for 128GB, UFS 3.1 for the others). However, there is no microSD card slot available in this model.

The Pro variant shares many features with the standard model, including an optical fingerprint reader, an IR blaster, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.1 (AAC, LDAC), and NFC support. Remarkably, it features an ultrasonic proximity sensor, and unlike the standard model, it comes with stereo speakers instead of a single speaker.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro has been drop tested from 3m and is rated IP69

The Redmi Note 17 Pro also offers superior water resistance, with an IP68 rating for submersion, and IP66/IP69/IP69K ratings for protection against water jets. Its outer layer is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has been tested to withstand drops from heights of up to 3 meters.

The camera specifications are modest, with the Pro model featuring a 50MP rear module equipped with a small 1/2.76" sensor (0.64µm pixels) and an f/1.8 lens. It also has a 2MP depth sensor on the back, while the front-facing camera comes with an 8MP sensor. Limited to recording 1080p videos at 30fps, the camera system doesn’t stand out.
