Redmi K100 Pro Max Rumored to Feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chipset

The initial details regarding the upcoming Redmi K100 Pro Max were revealed back in March. Recently, Digital Chat Station shared updated information about the device on Weibo.

Initially, the K100 Pro Max was rumored to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. However, it now appears that Redmi has decided to go with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead. If the original intention was to use the next-gen SoC, this adjustment likely reflects a cost-cutting strategy resulting from the ongoing chip shortage.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is clearly less expensive than its successor, and Redmi may plan to allocate the savings towards procuring the increasingly costly RAM and storage chips.

The device is also expected to feature a flat display with a refresh rate of 185Hz and large rounded corners. While the exact specifications for the ultra-high-resolution display have not been disclosed, it is anticipated to be impressive. On the rear, there will be a 200MP main camera utilizing a large, unspecified sensor, accompanied by a 50MP periscope telephoto camera.

Allegedly, the K100 Pro Max will house a battery with a capacity of at least 9,000 mAh, supporting 100W wired charging. Additionally, the device is expected to support wireless charging, feature a “best in class” speaker system, a large vibration motor, and include an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, it will be IP68 and IP69 rated for dust and water resistance.

The Redmi K90 Pro Max was launched in October of last year, so the release of the K100 Pro Max could potentially occur in the same month this year, though the exact launch timeline remains uncertain.
