WhatsApp Expands Testing of Green Dot Online Indicator to iOS Users

Source: Date:

Last month, we learned that WhatsApp began testing a green dot on Android to indicate when a contact is online. The Meta-owned company has now extended this feature to iOS users as well.

This information was revealed by WABetaInfo, which discovered the development in beta version 26.26.10.72 of WhatsApp for iOS.

If you are a beta user on iOS with the latest version installed, you will notice a small green circle in the bottom-right corner of a contact's photo on the "Contact info" screen when that contact is online. This indicator works in real-time, disappearing once the contact goes offline.

WhatsApp starts testing green dot online contact indicator on iOS

According to WABetaInfo, the green dot will currently only appear on the "Contact info" screen, which can be accessed by tapping on a contact's photo. It has been suggested that displaying the indicator in the chats list and Chats tab would enhance its functionality.

Additionally, it's important to note that WhatsApp enforces the same privacy settings for the green dot as it does for the last seen and online status features. Therefore, if a user has opted to hide their last seen and online status, the green dot will also remain hidden.

This green dot online status indicator feature is presently available only to select beta users on both Android and iOS, and it remains uncertain when WhatsApp plans to roll it out to all users.
